Dive into a world of creativity and culture! This session, we’ll explore the works of Diego Rivera and Louise Nevelson, drawing inspiration from masterpieces like Night Scene in Avila, Flower Carrier, Atmosphere and Environment X, and more.
Students will engage in hands-on projects, including painting night scenes, creating sand paintings, sculpting with clay shapes, and designing stacked ice sculptures. They’ll explore composition, texture, and storytelling in art while learning about different styles and techniques.
As they create, students will also experience music that enhances their understanding of visual arts, blending artistic expression with cultural exploration in an engaging and immersive way!
Tuesdays 10:30-11:30AM
In this engaging class, students will dive into the world of music through movement, listening, and hands-on music-making. This session, we will explore the works of Unsuk Chin and Undine Smith Moore, using their compositions to discuss instrumentation, pitch, mood, tempo, dynamics, and articulation.
Students will learn about melodic contours, expressive qualities in music, and improvisation with their voices. They’ll also compose in common time, identify musical phrases, and experiment with different instruments to bring their ideas to life.
Through a combination of movement, vocal exploration, and instrumental activities, students will develop rhythm, coordination, and a deeper understanding of musical expression—all while having fun with interactive and creative exercises!
Wednesday 10:30-11:30AM
In this class, students will explore different genres of dance, with a primary focus on jazz and hip hop. They will develop their dance technique through various movements, working on axial and locomotor skills, while learning to move safely through space. Students will demonstrate their understanding of space by performing movements at different levels (high vs. low) and in varying sizes (large vs. small). The class will culminate in a final showcase where students perform the choreography they’ve learned.
Wednesdays 11:30AM-12:30PM
In this class, students will engage in theater acting, puppetry, and choral singing. They will explore acting techniques by identifying settings, sensory details, and story points, while demonstrating active listening and creating appropriate movements and sounds for the story. Students will use their voice and movement to improvise pantomimes and retell rhymes. They will also develop their vocal skills through choral music and perform as a group in the final showcase.
